Final SCC Local Hearing – Monday, May 2

April 26, 2016

This upcoming Monday, May 2nd at 7pm in Battlefield High School’s auditorium is the final local State Corporation Commission (SCC) hearing on the proposed Haymarket Gainesville Dominion power line routing plan. I know many of you have already spent several hours at the previous hearings, and I want you to know how incredibly impressed and awed I am by our community’s continued dedicated efforts.

However regardless of previous attendance, I encourage everyone to attend this final local hearing as an actual member of the SCC board who will rule on the routing plan has committed to attend to hear community testimony (rather than simply the hearing examiner who has attended the previous two sessions.) I know it is imperative we have a strong community turnout to demonstrate to the SCC commissioner our opposition to Dominion’s preferred overhead route, and all routes other than the I-66 buried hybrid route. I greatly appreciate the efforts of the many citizens and local leaders who requested an SCC board member attend. I’d especially like to thank Congresswoman Barbara Comstock for her efforts in having a commissioner attend, including personally contacting the SCC board.

So again, please make time this coming Monday to come to Battlefield High School at 7pm and sign-up to speak to ensure our community’s voice is heard. Also, please forward this email to any friends and neighbors who may not be aware of the cost to the value of our community and homes the powerlines will exact if allowed to proceed as Dominion prefers.

If you are at all unsure about attending or speaking at the hearing, please contact my office for more information on how the hearing operates and the proposed routing plans. Thank you to everyone who has put so much time and energy into our cause and I look forward to seeing many of you next Monday at 7pm.

Hearings Set for Proposed Haymarket Power Line Project

March 2, 2016

The State Corporation Commission (SCC) announced it has scheduled local hearings in late February, early March, and early May for the proposed Dominion Virginia Power Haymarket transmission line project. The hearings will be held in the Battlefield High School auditorium (15000 Graduation Drive, Haymarket, VA 20169) on February 24 and March 14, 2016, at 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Another public hearing will be held at Battlefield High School on May 2 at 7:00 PM. Those who would like to provide comments to the SCC should sign in prior to the start of the hearing with the SCC bailiff. Supervisor Candland strongly encourage residents to attend at least one of the hearings and provide comments on this project.

This project involves the construction of a 230 kV transmission line, initiating from a location near Jiffy Lube Live and running through Gainesville and Haymarket to a commercial site located on Route 55, slightly west of Route 15. Dominion Virginia Power filed an application for the project on November 6, 2015, identifying their preferred route for the large transmission line towers to be above ground, and primarily along the north side of I-66. The need for this project is driven by a planned data center located off of Route 55 in Haymarket.

Supervisor Candland said, “From the beginning we have let Dominion Virginia Power know that the only acceptable route is the hybrid-route partially buried along I-66. We have had a strong, unified voice on this matter and now it is time to take our message to the State Corporation Commission. We must continue our messaging with that same loud voice as we fight for the route that will be best for all of our residents”.

Residents may also submit written comments on the proposal at any time either online ( or by mail (Clerk of the State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2118) until May 3, 2016. All correspondence should refer to case number PUE-2015-00107.
